The part of recovery nobody mentions

Swelling and bruising are expected. The week-three slump is not — and almost everyone gets it.

What people tell you about recovery is usually physical: swelling, bruising, stitches, check-ups. But for most people that is not the hard part.

Week three

Week one runs on adrenaline. Week two brings visible progress. Week three is a strange place: the pain is gone, but the result is not there yet. You look in the mirror and think, what have I done.

There is no name for that feeling, and nearly everyone has it. Knowing it passes genuinely helps.

Swelling does not go down in a straight line

You can look better one day and worse the next. Sleep position, salt, hormones, weather — all of it matters. Do not judge your result by one day's photo.

You do not owe anyone the story

You decide who knows. That is not secrecy; it is a boundary.

When to call your doctor

If something feels outside the expected range — increasing pain, fever, sudden asymmetry, unexpected discharge — do not guess and do not wait. Worrying about being a nuisance is the enemy of a good recovery.
